This is Barcelona's most important summer festival, and features theatre, dance, circus and music. The programme makes a point of including innovative events that are likely to be popular with audiences. Another of its attractions is its emphasis on family entertainment, including puppet shows and the circus. The festival takes place in various venues around Barcelona, although the main site is in the Teatre Grec, where the inauguration is also held. This is an open-air theatre which was built on the mountain of Montjuïc for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. Its structure recalls a great Roman theatre.
