The stage in Almagro in Ciudad Real today remains exactly as it was almost 400 years ago. This is the Corral de Comedias theatre, and it hosts many of the shows in the festival. The programme focuses on theatre classics, with particular emphasis on the Spanish Golden Age. Other festival venues are the San Juan Hospital, the Municipal Theatre, the old Renaissance University, Plaza de Santo Domingo square, the National Theatre Museum cloister and La Veleta theatre. In total, there are around 100 performances, some of which –such as those in the Plaza Mayor square– are free. Numerous international companies take part, so visitors can see performances in a range of languages. In parallel, there are exhibitions, workshops, meetings, presentations and courses on the theme of classical theatre.
