Easter week in Medina de Rioseco
From Apr 9, 2017 to Apr 16, 2017
Medina de Rioseco
This event in the town of Medina de Rioseco in Valladolid recreates the passion and death of Jesus Christ. It is famous for its rich iconography and heritage and for its age-old tradition, as it has taken place without interruption since the 16th century. Several different processions take to the streets during the week. These are solemn corteges bearing carved religious figures around the city on the floats known as 'pasos', accompanied by over 2,000 'cofrades' (members of the religious associations known as 'cofradías'). Maundy Thursday is the day on which to see the largest number of these images, in the procession of El Mandato. Medina de Rioseco it is also the site of the first museum dedicated to Easter Week in the province of Valladolid.
