Hornos de la Peña Cave

Description

Hornos de la Peña cave

Located on a ridge, and with an arch-shaped entrance, this is one of the most complete series of engravings in the region of Cantabria. Some of the paintings, including the ones located on the exterior, have disappeared over time. Its greatest treasures lie in the underground part, accessed through a narrow low space that leads on to the different sectors. Hornos de la Peña cave has been declared a part of our World Heritage. What can you see on your visit? Large naturalistic figures such as bison, horses, wild bulls, goats, stags and more... but the most eye-catching figure is that of a human with one arm raised and a long tail. All the drawings are painstakingly executed and reveal the artists' perfect knowledge of the anatomy of each beast.
