El Greco Museum

Description

The only museum in Spain dedicated to the life and work of El Greco, it contains works by the artist and other key pieces highlighting the society of Toledo at that time. Its founder, the Marquis of La Vega-Inclán, created an 'atmosphere museum' in the image of the house of El Greco. What will you see? The Museum is divided into two parts: rooms dedicated to El Greco and the influences on his work, and rooms dedicated to the Marquis of La Vega-Inclán. You'll see numerous works by El Greco –particularly from his later period–, in addition to artists from the schools of Toledo, Madrid and Seville from the 16th and 17th centuries: Luis Tristán, Murillo and Valdés Leal among others. Don't miss Famous works by El Greco like 'The Tears of Saint Peter' and 'The San Bernardino altarpiece'. On your visit, make a point of seeing the mysterious mediaeval caves and the house's traditional courtyard.
