The River Miera on its course through Liérganes (Cantabria)

Liérganes

Cantabria

The urban complex of this Cantabrian town was declared of national historical-artistic interest in 1978 and contains valuable classicist architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Liérganes is located at the foot of two small elevations, Marimón and Cotillamón, popularly known as “the breasts of Liérganes”. In the old part of the town, know as El Mercadil, you can find the houses of the Setién and the Cañones, the Humilladero and Carmen chapels and the new bridge, in addition to the popular mansions, the Rañada Palace and Cuesta-Mercadillo, the church of San Sebastián, and the parish church of San Pedro Ad Víncula. Also noteworthy is the Liérganes spa, which is surrounded by a magnificent estate with large trees, giving it a characteristic nineteenth-century air.
