Vilanova i la Geltrú

Art and museums on the coast

Barcelona

The old part of Vilanova conserves its medieval defensive wall.

Its most outstanding buildings include: the Santa María de la Geltrú Parish Church, with an 18th century polychromed wooden altarpiece, and Sant Gervasi Church; the Principal Theatre; the Railway Museum and the Víctor Balaguer Museum-Library, dated 1884, home to an important collection of Catalonian paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. Also worthy of mention are Casa Cabanyes House and the Can Papiol Museum, a 19th century stately house that will take you on a trip back in time. This coastal town is a major tourist destination in summer. This has lead to the appearance of many bars, restaurants, night spots and shops. Vilanova i la Geltrú also has a wide range of leisure and sports activities on offer, such as scuba diving, sailing and horse riding.
