What to see In the space of just a few kilometres you'll be able to enjoy beaches set amid cliffs, water sports in its marina, monuments and spectacular views in its valley and its gorge. You'll find beaches to suit every taste in the area around Las Nieves port. But if you're looking for peace and quiet, we suggest heading for some of the unspoiled beaches a little further afield. In the port you'll also see the shrine of Las Nieves, and inland the attractions include the church of La Concepción and the Huerto de las Flores, a botanical garden with over 100 species from all over the world. Gastronomy Agaete prides itself on its fresh fish –the best on the whole island! On the terraces and restaurants on the seafront promenade you'll be able to sample some of the local fish such as wreckfish, dentex and moray eel. Festivities If you're on the island in August, you can take part in the Fiesta de la Rama in honour of the Virgin of Las Nieves. The tradition consists of thousands of people dancing through the streets in time to the music and waving branches in the air until they arrive at the shrine of the Virgin.
