Alcoy has a large number of bridges, which is why it's known as 'the city of bridges'. The most spectacular is the metal Canalejas Viaduct, but the bridges of María Cristina, Sant Jaume and Sant Jordi are also well worth a visit. We recommend strolling around the city to see the Modernist architecture in the Casa del Pavo building, the central Plaza de España square, the gardens and the library at the Círculo Industrial building, and the former factories in the Plaça Ferrandis i Carbonell square. You'll find the best views on the outdoor terraces on the Medieval Towers, so don't forget your camera. If you have time, make a point of seeing the rock paintings in the La Sarga cave. Gastronomy and festivities The Moors and Christians festival held in Alcoy in April is an unforgettable experience. The city is transported back to the Middle Ages and the streets are inundated with music and colour. To recharge your batteries, we recommend some of the local coffee liqueur and a few of the delicious local dishes: 'pericana' (pepper and cod), 'olleta' (a stew made with beans) and 'bajoques farcides' (stuffed peppers).
