  • View of Cadaqués from the sea. Girona

This is an emblematic site on the Costa Brava, and with good reason: the colour of the water in its coves, the Cap de Creus nature reserve, the maritime atmosphere, its art galleries… It's hardly surprising that the artist Salvador Dalí chose this place to build his home.Read more...

What to see On the subject of Dalí, the number-one visit in this town is to his House-Museum opposite the bay of Portlligat. It's fascinating to see surrealism applied to his bedroom, his winter dining room, his library… A walk through the historic centre along a maze of cobbled alleyways lined with whitewashed houses will take you to art galleries, the church of Santa María and the Casa Serinyena, and on to its excellent beaches and peaceful coves which have served as inspiration to a number of artists. Some of the rocks on these beaches are very curious and seem to take on the shape of living beings. Active tourism Visitors can go on hiking routes such as taking the old path towards the Cabo de Creus. This nature area is ideal for kayaking, scuba-diving, horse riding… Gastronomy Make a point of trying typical dishes such as the 'suquet' (fish stew), rice casserole and cuttlefish with peas. And to accompany them, the Ampurdán-Costa Brava Designation of Origin produces excellent rosé wines such as the 'novell'.
