What to see Its historic centre is extremely pleasant for a leisurely stroll. We recommend the area around the streets of San Nicolás and Curtidores, where you'll find most of the monuments, including the church of San Pedro de la Rúa, a fine example of the Romanesque architecture of Estella. There are also numerous religious buildings like the church of San Miguel. One of the few civil buildings in the Romanesque style is the Palace of the Kings of Navarre, the site of the Gustavo de Maeztu Museum. The church of El Santo Sepulcro and the convent of Santo Domingo are in the Gothic style. Crossing the Puente de la Cárcel bridge, you'll come to the Renaissance San Cristóbal Palace and the Palace of Justice. Other interesting buildings include the convent of Las Recoletas, the basilica of Nuestra Señora de Puy and the convent of Santa Clara. Festivities Every July Estella recreates the Middle Ages in its streets. This event takes place mainly in the Plaza de los Fueros square and the surrounding area and features a traditional mediaeval market where the stallholders dress in period costume. There are also a whole range of activities on offer.
