What to see The typical Andalusian streets around Plaza de las Monjas. Monumental buildings such as the cathedral, which is home to the pantheon of the Duke of Niebla, or San Pedro church, which houses paintings by Zurbarán. The area's mining past is best reflected in the district known as Reina Victoria (Queen Victoria). It has many English-style houses. The wharf known as Muelle del Mineral is another fascinating place to visit. The monument called La Fe Descubridora (Spirit of Discovery) and Casa Colón (Columbus House), now a conference centre, remind us of its close ties to the voyage to the New World. We also recommend visiting the panoramic viewpoint known as El Conquero. Nuestra Señora de la Cinta Sanctuary is nearby. Gastronomy Prawns, squid, langoustines and shellfish form the basis of the local cuisine. Typical dishes include “habas enzapatadas” (a broad bean casserole), skate in paprika and tuna with tomato. And be sure to try some of the famous Huelva cured ham. Trips Doñana National Park is about 30 km away. And there are many other beauty spots within easy reach. If you prefer the beach, the closest is El Espigón. Most cultural visits are related to the Discovery of America. We recommend the Port of Palos, where Columbus set sail from, and Santa María de la Rábida monastery.
