What to see The Romans arrived here 2,000 years ago, drawn to the area by the hot springs. From those times, you can still see part of the Old Bridge, an icon of the city. Ourense is known as the “hot spring capital of Galicia”. In this area, you'll find fantastic outdoor hot springs such as those of Outariz, A Chavasqueira and Muiño da Veiga. The temperature of the water in these natural spas is very pleasant. In the Old City, we recommend visiting Plaza Mayor to see the City Hall and the Episcopal Palace. Also in the old quarter, you can see the clock tower alongside San Martiño cathedral. The streets and squares of Ourense have many typical “cruceiros” (stone crosses) and other impressive buildings and monuments such as Oca-Valladares palace and the famous As Burgas fountains. The temperature of their waters ranges from 60 to 67ºC. Gastronomy Exquisite wines such as Ribeiro are the perfect accompaniment to local specialities like octopus, ham with turnip tops and “empanada” (a tasty local pie usually filled with rabbit or tuna). From Ourense, you can take a coach trip to try the wines of Ribeira Sacra. Trips To enjoy Galicia's amazing countryside, we suggest going to Baixa Limia-Serra do Xurés Nature Reserve and O Invernadeiro Nature Reserve.
