What to see Priego old town is located in the highest area. This is where the defensive system of the Castle was built that can be visited today. Next door is the Barrio de la Villa neighbourhood – a set of cobbled streets that are a joy to stroll around. The Baroque art route in Priego invites you to stop off at the parish church of La Asunción, the Church of La Aurora and those of San Francisco and San Pedro. Don't miss civic buildings that include the façade and courtyard of the Carnicerías Reales, the birthplace of Aniceto Alcalá Zamora (the first president of the 2nd Spanish Republic) and the fountains of La Salud and El Rey. Gastronomy Easter Week stew, turkey with almonds, ‘salmorejo' (a type of gazpacho), billy goat with garlic and chilli or pork filet are just a few of the local delicacies.
