What to see The old town centre and its broad promenade entice you to enjoy a stroll. Many say the city is one large sculpture park as you will find over 100 sculptures in its plazas and avenues. Strolling through the streets, you'll discover a bright city with impressive white houses. We recommend visiting Nuestra Señora del Rosario church and the Miguel de Unamuno House Museum dedicated to this Spanish writer. Beaches There are three areas of beaches within easy reach of Puerto del Rosario. They are Puerto Lajas, Playa Blanca and Jarugo. The first two are traditional fishing towns. In Fuerteventura you'll find idyllic beaches with crystal-clear waters. You can enjoy large areas of sand dunes next to the sea and unspoilt landscapes in Corralejo Nature Reserve. Caleta de Fuste, Costa Calma and Jandía are full of fabulous beaches. The beaches of Sotavento and Morro Jable are very popular for surfing and windsurfing. Gastronomy Be sure to try some delicious Majorero cheese, “papas arrugadas con mojos” (potatoes with typical Canary Island sauces), “baifo asado” (roast kid) and “puchero canario” (local casserole). Fresh fish is another great option, which is mainly served fried or baked, and we especially recommend the “vieja” (a local species), dentex and horse mackerel.
