What to see Plaza Porticada square and the lively shopping streets of Arrabal and El Cubo are located in front of the Cathedral – one of the city's oldest buildings. You can continue your visit heading down to Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the Menéndez Pelayo Home Museum. Paseo Pereda boulevard, separating the coast from the old town, leads to the Bay, home to Puerto Chico and the Palacete del Embarcadero mansion. You can also visit the Festival Centre, the Prehistory and Archaeology Museum, and the Cantabrian Maritime Museum. Beaches El Sardinero is the most popular area on the Santander coastline, where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful waterfronts in Spain. There are several different beaches for taking a dip: El Camello, La Concha or those in El Sardinero itself. To the right of El Sardinero is one of the most beautiful spots, La Magdalena Peninsula, home to the Royal Palace. One option here is to sightsee on the tourist train. Nature Just a few kilometres from the capital is the Cabárceno Wildlife Park. Gastronomy You have to try the famous ‘rabas' (fried squid) and ‘sobaos pasiegos' (sponge cake).
