Fashionable neighbourhoods

Everywhere in the tourism area of Barcelona could be described as cool, but here are three areas which are currently very fashionable among the people of Barcelona: around Passeig de Sant Joan, the Born district, and Poble Sec. The Passeig de Sant Joan area has the advantage of being easy to walk or cycle around, it’s close to the city centre, and it has a wide range of interesting shops, bars and other businesses. It runs between Gràcia (one of the leading retail hubs) and Arc de Triomf (next to one of the city’s green spaces, Parc de la Ciutadella). In this area you will find a range of trendy places.

El Born is close to Passeig de Sant Joan and is the epicentre of the city’s alternative culture and indie style. Its streets and buildings recall its medieval past (it was once home to tourneys and jousting) and now it attracts people looking for fun in its fashionable pavement cafés. It has notable cultural options, with numerous galleries or artist centres and restaurants. Don’t forget to visit the Picasso Museum, the Basilica of Santa María del Mar, and the popular Santa Caterina and Princesa markets. Poble-Sec may be the Barcelona district with the longest tradition of theatre and show-business. Its theatre and concert halls are very popular. The area also features lively taverns and wine bars.
