La Garrotxa, land of volcanoes

Girona

Forty volcanic cones and more than 20 lava casts welcome you to La Garrotxa, north of Girona. This landscape, the best example of volcanic land formation on the peninsular, is only two hours by car from Barcelona. Nature lovers will be thrilled at unforgettable experiences amongst the forests and volcanoes that typify this region.

Olot, modernity and nature Olot is the capital of La Garrotxa and is surrounded by four volcanoes: Montsacopa, Montolivet (both accessible), Garrinada and Bisaroques. Here, in the place of contrasts, nature lives alongside art. On the outskirts of town, in the centre of the Moixina Wetlands, there are numerous contemporary buildings designed by the local Estudio RCR , winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2017.A tour of the area would not be complete without a gastronomic stopover. Discover the local "volcanic cooking" and the products this unusual area has to offer. Beans, corn, game and truffles are all represented in the local menus. But don't leave without trying dishes like patatas de Olot or visiting the Les Cols restaurant, with two Michelin stars.
