Journeys inspired by the meanings and emotions of colours

none

Disciplines such as psychology and marketing have proven that colours affect your moods and emotions. If feeling good is a motivation to travel, why not plan a holiday inspired by the colours you like the most? Let us show you landscapes in Spain that convey emotions though their colours. Are you searching for a place that is peaceful, safe and trustworthy? You are attracted to blue. Do you prefer destinations full of energy, adventure and attractions? You love the colour red for sure. Are you committed to the environment and a serene lifestyle? Green is a great choice for you.

BLUE LANDSCAPES: the colour of trust, safety and stability. It transmits calm

“…And amidst so many sky-blues, submerged, our eyes are lost barely guessing the powers of the air, the underwater keys.” 100 Love Sonnets, Pablo Neruda.Facing the infinite sea and the lost horizon where it fuses with the sky. Breathing deeply. Peace. Every day, more people are discovering the delight of yoga or meditation on the beaches of the Costa Blanca, in the Region of Valencia. The coves of the Balearic Islands with their turquoise blue water show just how scenery can transmit a sense of calm. The Costa de Luz (in the south of Andalusia) is famous for its bluest of blue skies and vast beaches for relaxing on. Even in a big city like Barcelona, you can discover places where the colour blue reigns supreme. Take in the views over the city from the bunkers of Carmel or the Tibidabo amusement park on a clear day and soak up the infinite blue. The experience goes even deeper in Galicia where you can visit some of the lighthouses and see why the Cape of Fisterra was once thought to be the end of the world.

RED LANDSCAPES: the colour of passion and adventure. It transmits energy

Do you prefer lyrical landscapes and unexplored territories? If your favourite red is a passionate scarlet, you will fall in love with the poppy fields that burst into bloom mainly in April and May. Some of the best-known can be found around the Montes de Toledo (Castilla-La Mancha) and in the fields in southern Álava (the Basque Country) and northern Burgos (Castilla y León). Adventurous spirits will be attracted to the russet landscapes of Las Médulas (in León, Castilla y León) and the volcanic island of Lanzarote (Canary Islands). An open-pit gold mine during Roman times, today Las Médulas is a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Landscape. Lanzarote is a Biosphere Reserve that will surprise you with the lunar landscape of Timanfaya National Park. In this special place in the island’s volcanic region, the earth itself is red. To finish, we recommend a very urban red which you will need a little luck to enjoy. Especially in December and January, many sunsets in Madrid turn the sky red, a spectacle seen at its best from vantage points like Las Vistillas garden, the Temple of Debod or some of the most popular rooftop terraces, such as the Círculo de Bellas Artes rooftop bar.

GREEN LANDSCAPES: the colour of nature, sustainability and life. It transmits hope

Did you know that the regions of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country are known as “Green Spain”? The nickname is profoundly descriptive. The unspoilt landscapes here include spaces such as the Ribeira Sacra (Galicia), Picos de Europa National Park (spread over Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla y León), or Los Valles Pasiegos (Cantabria), where the revitalising force of nature surrounds you at every turn. You can easily experience this sense of freedom and connection with nature at any of Spain’s 16 national parks. They are all very different but perhaps some of the most spectacular green landscapes can be enjoyed in Ordesa and Monte Perdido (Aragón), Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici (Catalonia) and Garajonay (La Gomera, Canary Islands). When you visit you may recall these verses by Lorca: “Green, how I love you green. Green wind. Green branches.” Romance Sonámbulo, Federico García Lorca.
