Plaza de Cibeles square

Description

Plaza de Cibeles square

One of the best-known and busiest squares in Madrid, the venue for concerts, celebrations and the subject of a vast number of photographs. Here you'll find some of Madrid's most important monuments, including the Cibeles Fountain and Palace. You'll see a fountain in the centre of the square crowned by a sculpture of the goddess Cybele, protector of towns and nature, on a chariot drawn by two lions. The interior of the Cibeles Palace houses a vast cultural exhibition space, in addition to an auditorium. Once inside, make sure to go up to its observation platform where you'll be rewarded with outstanding panoramic views over Madrid to capture with your camera. Other famous buildings you can see in the square are the Bank of Spain, the Linares Palace and the Buenavista Palace. An interesting fact is that this where fans of the Real Madrid Football club come to celebrate their victories, gathered around the goddess Cybele.
