Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park

Description

The expression 'natural paradise' perfectly describes this park in the Catalan Pyrenees. With over 200 lakes, waterfalls, the cliffs of 'Els Encantats', high-mountain meanders (known as 'aigüestortes') and its leafy forest, it's impossible not to be impressed. What animals can you find there? Bearded vultures are the most typical birds in the park. This surprising creature makes its home directly on the vertical rock faces of the mountain. Iberian muskrats and otters spend their days in the river. What's on offer in the park? Depending on the season of the year, you can choose from a range of different activities: snowshoe excursions, nature walks to discover the secrets of mountain flowers, guided visits to the Shepherds' Ecomuseum… And if you're up for a challenge, find out more about the itinerary known as the 'Carros de foc': a circular route taking around four days.
