Timanfaya National Park

Description

Between 1730 and 1736, and again in 1824, several volcanic eruptions destroyed the lands on the island of Lanzarote. Centuries later, a visit to this park means you are seeing a land that is in the process of being reborn. Walking on basalt lava, observing the different tones of black and red, the outline of the volcanoes, the curious species that have adapted to the environments… is an experience unlike any other. You're in the 'mountains of fire'. What animals can you find there? Although at first glance it may look like there's no life in the park, it is home to over 200 species, among them the Barbary falcon and the Canarian shrew. What's on offer in the park? Next to the park's Culture and Tourism Centre you can see a surprising demonstration of the heat of the Earth's core. In fact, there's a restaurant where your food is cooked using natural heat. This is the departure point for one of the most highly recommended bus routes for exploring the park. And another more entertaining option… a ride on a dromedary!
