Description

It is one of the largest forests on the Iberian Peninsula, encompassing parts of Galicia and Portugal. What is special about this nature area? The amount of native species that live here due to the combination of wet Atlantic climate and mild Mediterranean climate. You're sure to be amazed by the enormous granite boulders of glacial origin, known as “piedras caballeras”. What animals can you find there? This Biosphere Reserve is home to 30 species of mammals and 140 kinds of birds. Most notably wolves, roe deer, falcons and golden eagles. What's on offer in the Biosphere Reserve? There are hiking trails and horse riding routes and, when it's sunny, you can have a refreshing swim at the river beaches and bathing areas in Muiños, Lobios or Entrimo. There are also various companies offering activities such as kayaking, climbing, rafting and bungee jumping. And if you like spas, be sure to visit the village of Lobios.
