San Jerónimo el Real Church

Madrid

At the end of the 15th Century the San Jerónimo church and an annexed palace were built under the orders of the Catholic Monarchs. Being in the outskirts of Madrid at that time, the monarchs appointed the place as a place of retreat and repose. This temple has undergone many alterations and refurbishments over the years. After the War of Independence against Napoleon’s army, it was almost left in ruins. In the 19th Century, various Neogothic reforms were carried out. Inside, there are several valuable works of art, such as sculptures by Benlliure and Juan Pascual de Mena.
