Description

The best way to explore Italica, is from the hand of a native of the area archaeologist guide, who will tell us the history of Italica in a very special way.

We offer:

Guided tour of the archaeological site of Italica: The origins of Archaeological Ensemble of Italica go back to the year 206 BC, when the general Scipio, in the context of the Second Punic War, defeated the Carthaginians at the Battle of Ilipa and established a detachment of legionaries in the Cerro San Antonio, where there was already a turdetana population from the fourth century BC. At first the two communities lived together in this space next to the Guadalquivir, the Roman element soon imposed their social and political ways. In the second half of the first century B.C. city acquires municipal status and, later, during the goverment of Emperor Adriano (117-138 AD), the colony, which is administratively equates to the metropolis.

It was the birthplace of Trajano and Adriano, and point of origin of many of the senators of the time.
