International Festival of the Celtic World

This open-air macrofestival is a world landmark for folk music and takes place in Ortigueira, A Coruña. Thousands of people come every year to enjoy concerts beside the sea completely free of charge. The line-up features performances by both established stars and new talents. Although the main focus of the festival is on Celtic music, it also includes other kinds of folk music and traditional sounds. It has a spectacular free camping area located in a vast pine forest beside the unspoiled beach of Morouzos. There are street performances, and a large marquis where the partying goes on until dawn, in addition to photo exhibitions, arts and crafts fairs, dance workshops and parades featuring music bands and carnival figures. The event was first held in 1978, and is today known all over the world.
