Asturcón Horse Festival

Festivity of National Tourist Interest

Piloña

Asturias

This is a celebration of the Asturcón horse, the quintessential breed throughout this region of Asturias. The festival was started in 1980 when these horses were facing extinction. It takes place in the town of Sardeda.

The festivities begin in the morning with an open-air mass, and continue throughout the day with a dance competition, brass bands, bagpipe bands and a communal meal laid on by a local social club. Then there is a display of riding and dressage, which includes marking all Asturcón colts born that year.
