The Passion in Chinchón

Festivity of Tourist Interest
Madrid

This living representation is held in the historic centre of the town on the night of Easter Saturday.

During Easter Week Chinchón, in the Region of Madrid, commemorates the passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ with a theatrical representation of the Passion. Some 250 actors take part in the event, held at dusk on Easter Saturday, at emblematic locations around the town such as Plaza Mayor Square, the Town Hall, Plaza de San Roque Square and Calvary, amongst others.

This traditional spectacle has been held since 1963, now the oldest of its type in the region. It comprises different scenes, packed with drama and colour, in a unique setting culminating in the moment most anticipated by those in attendance: the Resurrection. Christ's Ascension is represented in La Asunción Church, surrounded by white smoke and doves.
