Monastery of San Jerónimo in Yuste

Its international fame is due to the fact that the Emperor Charles V spent the last few months there after abdicating the crown in favour of his son Philip II. He ordered a palace to be constructed next to the Monastery, together a tiled pond. The palace gives you an idea of what the Emperor's house in Ghent was like. Founded in the 15th century, it has its origins in a small shrine. A donation of land allowed it to be extended. This led to the building of the current church and two cloisters, one in Gothic and the other in Renaissance style.
