Cave of Altamira

Cave of Altamira

Description

It contains one of the finest examples of Rock art. It is the first place in the world where the existence of this kind of art was identified. Its drawings from 14,000 years ago are an example of our most distant past. The Cave is made up of an entrance hall, main gallery and side hall. The drawings represent bisons, deer, horses, boars and so on. They are painted with natural ochre in red and outlined in black. To ensure its preservation, there are only pilot visits with one group a week of 5 people accompanied by a guide. You can also visit the Altamira Museum. It is made up of the Neocave and several exhibition rooms. In the Neocave, there is an exact reproduction of the structure and paintings in the original Cave. In the rooms, we will find reproductions, films, cartoons and over 400 objects from daily life in the Upper Paleolithic.
