Hanging Houses

Hanging Houses

Description

This is the best known building in Cuenca. You will be surprised by the houses built on the cornice of a rock with their wooden balconies jutting out of the cliff face. Once, the whole face of River HuƩcar Gorge had hanging houses; today, however, only three remain. Two of the houses are home to the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art, where one of the best collections of its kind can be appreciated. The houses are known as the Casas del Rey [King's Houses]. The other house is known as the Casa de la Sirena [house of the mermaid]. It is a typical inn offering great views and cuisine.
