Girona Cathedral

Known as Santa María de Girona Cathedral, it has the widest Gothic nave in the world. Heading up the 90 steps of its striking large flight of steps, you get to the main door. The church, the Chapterhouse, the Cloister and the Basilica of San Félix (Gerona's first cathedral) can all be visited. Take a look at the human gargoyle that juts right out from the wall next to the Charlemagne Tower. Popular myth has it this is a witch due to her long gown, covered head and parchment held in the hands. Highlights of the interior include the altarpiece at the High Altar crafted in silver, enamel and precious stones, and a unique Romanesque tapestry of the Creation. The tapestry can be seen in the Chapterhouse rooms, alongside other pieces such as professional crosses, reliquaries and chalices.
