The Alhambra

The Alhambra is a beautiful complex of buildings and gardens crafted for over 600 years. The complex comprises rectangular courtyards and numerous fountains, as well as the Nasrid buildings that served as living quarters for the monarchs and their servants. It has three different parts: the Alcazaba fortress, the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife Gardens. The Alcazaba, located on the highest part of the hill, is one of the oldest parts. The Nasrid Palaces are the most visited with each being built at a different period (the Mexuar Palace, the Comares Palace and the Palace of the Lions). Other rooms can be visited in this part in addition to the palaces, such as the Emperor's Rooms, the Reja Courtyard, the Palace Portico and the Paseo de las Torres. The third part comprises the Generalife. This was the leisure area of the monarchs and comprises the Lower Gardens, the Generalife Palace and the Upper Gardens. Take advantage on your trip to see other interesting spots in the Alhambra including the Palace of Carlos V, the Vela Tower, the Gate of Justice and the Courtyard of the Lions. The Alhambra and Generalife have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site.
