Ibiza Castle

Description

If you climb to the top of Puig de Vila you'll find a series of buildings that form the city's castle. The Almudaina is today joined to the castle, but they were originally separated and surrounded by a wall with twelve towers. Archaeological excavations have uncovered remains from the 12th and 13th centuries, and it is known today that it was originally formed by six bastions, of which the most important were those of San Jorge and Santiago. On the ground floor of what is still the Governor's House in the south of the castle, you can see a section of Arab fortification still standing. The Almudaina and the monumental site it contains have been declared a part of our World Heritage.
