Ibiza Cathedral

It was originally in the Gothic style, but due to subsequent reforms it now has a Baroque appearance. It was built thanks to a promise by the Catalan troops: if they conquered Ibiza they would build a church, and it was thus the cathedral was built. With an austere and sober exterior, the bell tower has an interesting set of bells dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, and there are a large number of works of art on display in the cathedral's interior. These include a gold-plated silver custodian by Francesc Martí, two Gothic panels by the painter Francesc Comes and an image of the Virgin of El Rosario in relief by an anonymous author. Ibiza cathedral is dedicated to Santa María la Mayor or the Virgin of Las Nieves.
