León Cathedral

Description

A gothic cathedral known by its nickname ‘Pulchra Leonina', which in Latin means ‘beautiful'. It was inspired by Reims cathedral in France. The light flooding in through the over 700 stained glass windows and the spectacular rose window will draw you in. At night, Santa María Cathedral offers a spectacular unique light show. The choir is one of the oldest in Spain and split in two: The King's Choir and the Bishop's Choir, Before you head there, stop off at the Cathedral Museum housing over 1,500 works and 50 Romanesque carvings of the Virgin Mary. The International Organ Festival of Leon is held in the church and is a renowned national and international event.
