Alcázar fortress in Toledo

Located at the highest point of the city of Toledo, it now houses the Army Museum. It is a monumental building with large square towers at its two corners. Its rooms take you on a journey through the history of the army. There are different types of arms and objects related to warfare, models of the original Alcazár fortress and a large number of documents and plans of the building. It is on three floors, with an interior collonaded courtyard. The upper floor houses the Library of Castile-La Mancha. While visiting, you can enjoy some of the temporary exhibitions. The Alcázar has its origins in a Roman fort and has been the scene of a number of historic events. It survived three fires and a 70-day assault during the Spanish Civil War.
