The Silk Exchange

Description

This supreme Gothic monument in Valencia is one of the most visited in the city. The whole site –including built and non-built areas– covers more than 2,000 square metres. Don't miss the popular street market selling stamps and coins that takes place on Sundays. Valencia was a key reference for silk fabrics and the market is known by this name due to the type of trade that took place inside. Its sturdy walls give it the appearance of a mediaeval castle. The Silk Exchange has four different parts: the Tower, the Consulate Pavilion, the Columns Room, and the Orange-tree Courtyard. From the Consulate Pavilion visitors can see the wooden ceilings and the tiled floors in the Trade Tribunal Room and the Consulate Room. It is considered one of Europe's most beautiful examples of Gothic civil architecture and has been declared a part of our World Heritage.
