Nuestra Señora del Pilar Basilica

It is considered a centre of pilgrimage and the best known building in Saragossa. A highlight in the Basilica is the small Holy Chapel designed by Ventura Rodríguez. Inside it houses the Holy Column and an image of Our Lady. The tradition is to dress the column and statue with robes and adorn the latter with crowns. Thanks to the number of robes the statue of Our Lady has, the famous saying now goes ‘Our Lady of Pilar has more gowns than days in the year'. The Pilar Museum houses paintings by major artists such as Goya and Bayeu, as well as a collection of crowns, jewels and gowns donated to the Our Lady. The church is dedicated to Our Lady of Pilar, patron saint of Saragossa and Aragón. This Virgin is also known as the Queen or Patron Saint of the Hispanic World.
