Artium Museum

Artium has the most comprehensive collection of contemporary Basque art anywhere. The museum is formed by a large square containing an exhibition of some of its works, such as sculptures by Richard Serra, Jorge Oteiza and Eduardo Chillida. The museum building is located below this square, in the manner of an underground cellar. What will you see? Almost 3,000 works focusing particularly on contemporary art from its beginnings through to the present day. Its collections contain examples of a range of techniques such as painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation. The bulk of the works are by Basque or Spanish artists, and you'll be able to see creations by Dalí, Miró, Picasso, Tàpies and Chillida among others. The exhibition is changed about every year. Don't miss Joan's Miró's ceramic mural and the vast sculpture entitled 'Un Pedazo de Cielo Cristalizado' ('A piece of crystallised sky') by Javier Pérez in the museum lobby.
