What to see The historic quarter of Figueres contains the ruins of its old defensive wall dating from the Middle Ages. A good option is to take a stroll through the Plaza del Ayuntamiento square and the area around Carrer Magre, formerly the site of the Jewish quarter. The city's main avenue is La Rambla, a good place for shopping and where you can also see Modernist buildings like Casa Cusí and Casa Salleras. We recommend a visit to the church of Sant Pere and the San Fernando castle –although if you want to be sure not to miss anything, the best idea is to drop into a tourist office for some routes for exploring the city. Its star attraction is without doubt the Dalí Theatre-Museum. Get ready to experience it with all your five senses, as the actual museum –designed by Dalí himself– is very surprising. It's also the site of the crypt containing the artist's tomb. Make a note: on Saturdays there are guided visits around 'Dalí's Figueres'. Excursions Figueres is very near the beaches on the Costa Brava and the Cap de Creus nature reserve, and about 30 kilometres away you'll find the charming town of Cadaqués, the site of the Salvador Dalí House-Museum. Gastronomy The cuisine of Figueres is known for its combination of sea and mountain ingredients. Would you like to try rabbit with lobster and wine with the Ampurdán-Costa Brava Designation of Origin?
