What to see The port, the area around Plaza del Charco and the seafront promenade are the most popular areas, full of restaurants and street cafés. And the sea is never far away. You'll see some of the most fascinating historic buildings, such as San Felipe castle, San Telmo chapel and the church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña. In the port area, you can enjoy Lago Martiánez. This original complex of seawater swimming pools was designed by renowned local architect César Manrique. It's a great way to spend a relaxing day in a volcanic setting. If you have kids with you, be sure to visit El Loro Park, a space dedicated to fauna and flora where you can see penguins, dolphins, monkeys, tigers, sharks and all kinds of parrots. Gastronomy In Puerto de la Cruz, you'll be eating at a “guachinche”… These are typical restaurants serving traditional cuisine such as vegetable stews, fish casserole and “papas arrugadas con mojos” (potatoes with typical Canary Island sauces).
