What to see While in Riaza, be sure to stroll around Plaza Mayor. Encircled by magnificent stone balustrades, iron railings, impressive portals and balconies, the main square is a great place to sit and simply watch the world go by. Nearby, you can visit the church of Nuestra Señora del Manto, which has a 33 metre bell tower and houses a fine collection of religious art. Just one kilometre from the town there is a beauty spot known as Peñas Llanas, where you can enjoy some breathtaking views. The town also has delightful chapels located in various parks and meadows, such as the chapels of San Juan, San Roque and Hontaneras. During your stay, you can also admire the marvellous architecture of the traditional houses: impressive two-storey buildings with wooden cornices and balconies. Gastronomy Riaza is famous for its roast lamb, cooked in a wood-fired oven, and its suckling pig. Active tourism and trips You can go horse riding in the surrounding countryside. And if you prefer walking, there are trails leading to Riofrío, Hontanares chapel and La Hiruela. If you come in autumn, it's well worth taking a trip to Hayedo de Pedrosa, which is some 10 kilometres away. And in the winter, you can go skiing at the nearby La Pinilla ski resort.
