What to see Some of the standout buildings are located in Plaza de España square, such as the Town Hall and, just nearby, Casa de Salazar, which hosts different cultural activities. The Church of El Salvador is located in the town centre, alongside other religious buildings such as the Church of Santo Domingo or the Church of La Encarnación. Make sure to include a trip to the popular shrine of the Virgen de las Nieves, located in the highest part of the town and housing a statue of the island's patron saint. Beaches The Marina in Santa Cruz de La Palma stands out for Bajamar black sandy beach, where you can enjoy a dip or do water sports. You can also take a trip to the beaches of Martín Luis or El Remo. Nature and active tourism The following excursions are also available: Caldera de Taburiente National Park or Las Nieves Nature Reserve. Gastronomy A good choice would be the ‘papas arrugás’ with mojo (boiled potatoes with the quintessential Canary Island sauce). Festivities The Descent of the Virgin of Las Nieves, La Palma’s patron saint, takes place every five years. It includes the famous Dance of the Dwarves.
