What to see Next to the sea front in the city centre is Plaza de España square. Just in front is Tenerife Island Council. Do not miss other standout areas such as Plaza de la Candelaria, the Palacio de la Carta, the Teatro Guimerá or the Casino, where you can see a collection of works by Canary Island painters. Beaches The city is home to ‘César Manrique’ Maritime Park. Although if you feel like a beach day, we suggest heading to Playa de las Teresitas, located just a few kilometres away. Nature Anaga Rural Park is near the capital and home to the so-called ‘path of the senses’ where you can discover the world of Laurel forests. Gastronomy ‘Ranchos’ (a typical pork stew), ‘papas arrugás’, ‘mojos’ (sauces) and fish such as horse mackerel and ‘vieja sancochada’ (boiled fish) are the star dishes in Canary Island cuisine. To accompany your meal, why not try one of the five Designation of Origin wines made in Tenerife. Festivities Santa Cruz de Tenerife is famous for its carnival, with spectacular costumes and entertainment from ‘murgas’ and ‘rondallas’ (street musicians). The streets are filled with music, laughter and colour for an entire week and the only obligation is to have some fun.
