What to see Right in the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana valley, Valldemossa old town is home to steep streets and excellent natural vantage points with spectacular views. One of the main points of interest is ‘La Cartuja’ Carthusian Monastery, whose cloisters, cells and gardens were visited by the famous composer Frédéric Chopin. Once inside you will discover scores, letters, furniture and correspondence from the composer’s stay on the island of Majorca, as well as the ‘Pleyel’ piano. In honour of the Polish pianist, concerts are held in the cloister and gardens in summer. The Municipal Museum is also located in the monastery as well as a room dedicated to Contemporary Art, which shows work by great artists including Joan Miró and Pablo Picasso. Beaches and nature If you head down to the Port of Valldemossa, a small fishing port with pine groves and cliffs, you will discover coves and beaches with calm waters where you can take a dip. A good example is Son Marroig. Gastronomy You can try some of the island’s Designation of Origin products in Valldemossa, such as sobrasada sausage, Mahón cheese and Binissalem-Mallorca wine.
