El Born

Description

El Born

This avenue with its mediaeval origins is home to the most fashionable bars and terraces in Barcelona. This is an extremely popular and lively neighbourhood both by day and night. It is located in the La Ribera quarter, a labyrinth of alleyways which was in the past a craftsman's quarter and is today one of the city's most avant-garde districts. Artists, boutiques, bars where you can enjoy a drink before dinner, restaurants and leisure venues all line the streets. It is surrounded by several 14th-century buildings, such as the old market of El Born and the Gothic church of Santa María del Mar. The market is an excellent example of iron architecture, and the church of Santa María del Mar served as inspiration for the architect Antonio Gaudí when he built the Sagrada Familia.
