Barrio Húmedo quarter

The Barrio Húmedo quarter

This is one of the liveliest parts of León's old mediaeval district, and is famous for the large number of bars and restaurants to be found there. It's the perfect place for going out for 'tapas' and sampling miniature portions of all the local dishes. It's worth pointing out that in the never-ending variety of bars, the 'tapas' are usually free and are served to accompany your drink. Many of the bars have become specialised in certain products, such as the typical 'morcilla' or black pudding from León, battered squid ('in a gabardine'), mussels au gratin, or potatoes with spicy red pepper. The best way to accompany them is with a small glass of wine known as a 'chato', served in a traditional chunky glass. At nightfall, the Barrio Húmedo is popular with young people who get together in the various clubs to be found there.
