The Chueca quarter

This is the centre of the gay scene in Madrid, and a symbol of modernity, the avant-garde and open-mindedness. You'll see a wide variety of different people in the streets, as well as fun, fashion and lashings of atmosphere... everything from the wickedest venues through to techno clubs and the latest hip venues. The Plaza de Chueca square and the streets of Fuencarral and Hortaleza are its main boundaries. Here you'll be able to choose between a wide range of designer restaurants serving a variety of international cuisine, in addition to shops displaying the most alternative and up-to-the-minute fashions. More people are choosing to come to this area to enjoy the nightlife. In July, Chueca becomes the centre of the popular festivities to celebrate Gay Pride Week. People come from all over the world set on enjoying the concerts, shows and the parade of floats that marches through the centre of the capital.
