La Latina quarter

The La Latina quarter

Located in the heart of Madrid, this is one of its most traditional neighbourhoods. This area is alive with atmosphere every day, but particularly in the evening and at weekends. This place is very popular with the locals thanks to its bars, pubs and traditional taverns, and is the ideal place to enjoy the popular and delicious 'tapas'. Some establishments such as Casa Lucio have acquired worldwide fame over time. The neighbourhood's mediaeval layout revolves around the squares of La Cebada and La Paja, and the streets of La Cava Alta and Baja tend to be the most popular. Make the most of your visit to see some of the interesting monuments in the area like the basilica of San Francisco el Grande and the Las Vistillas park. The festivities in honour of the Virgin of La Paloma take place around 15 August and bring a genuinely festive atmosphere to the streets.
